The school uses this form to get your student's t-shirt size and other details for senior year planning. If you have not filled this out yet, please do. It takes only a few minutes to complete.

Senior Counselors

Last names A-Co: Mr. Jalen Wiley ([email protected]), a longtime AFHS teacher joining the counseling team
Counselor assignments for the other last-name ranges will be posted as we confirm them. Check the AFHS website or ask the front office.

Off-Campus Lunch Passes

Your kid will want this. Seniors can apply for off-campus lunch privileges starting August 3. Info gets posted on the AFHS school website.

Requirements

Your student must be:

In grade 11 or 12
In good academic standing (passing at least 3 of 4 classes)
In good standing with attendance - excessive unexcused absences will result in the pass being revoked until attendance improves
In good standing with tardies coming back from lunch

Fair warning: this is a privilege, not a right. The school will pull the pass if your student falls out of compliance.

How to Apply

Applications open August 3 on the AFHS school website. (Link TBD - check the school site when it opens.)

Meningococcal Vaccine Booster - Required

Do not wait on this one. North Carolina requires all seniors to submit proof of a meningococcal vaccine booster before starting 12th grade.

AFHS must have this documentation by the first day of school
If not received, schools are required to exclude students from school after a brief grace period
A lot of kids get this at their standard 16-year-old wellness check, so your student may already have it on file. Call your pediatrician and ask.

If your student has not had this booster, schedule it now. Not next week. Now.

Leadership Opportunities for Seniors

Homeroom Leaders

Senior students partner with 9th grade homeroom teachers to help freshmen get settled into high school beyond just orientation. It is a solid leadership experience and counts as community service.

Pit Leaders

If your kid is the one leading chants at football games anyway, this makes it official. Senior pit leaders run the energy in the student section at fall games - football and basketball.

Graduation

Graduation details are expected to be set by early August, and the school will publish more once they are final.

The Class of 2027 is about 700 seniors, one of the largest yet
Because of the size, each student will receive fewer tickets, at least six to start
That number may go up depending on logistics the school works out in the fall

Senior Activity Fee

Every senior is assessed a $45 senior activity fee (listed as "Class of 2027 Senior Fees" when you pay). It covers a Senior t-shirt, diploma cover, end-of-year celebration, and other senior year and graduation costs.

Your student cannot get a parking assignment until this fee is paid
If this fee is a hardship for your family, there is help. Talk to Mr. Pittman ([email protected]) or your counselor at any time. The school's intent is not for this to be a burden on any family.
