Senior Parking Lottery

Seniors get first access to on-campus parking at AFHS. Spaces are limited and assigned through a lottery, not first-come, first-served.

Results are out. Recipients were notified by email on August 3 - the school says to check your student email, so have your senior look in their WCPSS account (including spam). Some families also saw it at the address used to enter the lottery.

If your senior got a space, there is a six-item packet to put together, including a notarized application and photocopies. See Step 3 below. If your senior did not get a space, Round 2 has closed - results went out August 14 by student email.

Pass pickup windows are set by the school and they change. This hub is not the place to look for them. Check the AFHS student parking page for current dates and times, or email Asst. Principal Will Kasapidis ([email protected]).

Key Details

• Cost: $200 (set by the district - none of this fee stays with the school)
• Seniors go first. If spaces remain after the senior lottery, juniors may enter a second round.
• Spaces are limited. There are typically very few left after the senior round.
• Spaces are not transferable. Assignments must go through the school.
• NC driver license required. Temporary licenses or out-of-state licenses are not accepted.
• Not licensed yet? The school can work with students who will have their license by the first week of school. Enter the lottery now, then contact Asst. Principal Will Kasapidis ([email protected]).
• Fines and fees must be cleared before your student can receive a parking assignment.

Recipients were notified by email - the school's own message tells families to check their student email. Have your senior look in their WCPSS student account, including spam and promotions folders, since school mail often lands there. Some families also saw it at the address used to enter the lottery, so check there too.

That notification also carries the registration link, so everything you need arrives in one place - and you can go straight to the form here if you cannot find the email.

Then bring all six of these with you. Bring photocopies rather than originals - the school does not make copies at the table, and a complete packet means your senior walks away with the pass on the first try.

• Notarizing usually takes an appointment. Many banks and credit unions notarize free for members, and the UPS Store and public libraries often offer it. Worth booking a few days ahead
• Both payments need separate receipts - the parking fee and the senior fee are two different payments in School Cash Online, and you need a printout of each
• No learner permit. If your senior is not fully licensed yet, contact Asst. Principal Will Kasapidis ([email protected]) before pickup

Step 4: Pick Up Your Parking Pass

Bring the packet from Step 3 whenever you go. Spot assignments are random, so picking up early does not get you a better spot.

Missing a window does not cost your senior the space. If the posted times do not work, email Asst. Principal Will Kasapidis ([email protected]) and sort it out directly.

• Can another parent drop off the notarized forms and pick up the pass on behalf of a family who cannot be there?

No need to email him about the question above - it is already in front of him, and one answer covers everyone. If your situation is urgent or specific to your family, of course reach out ([email protected]).

New Car, Temporary Plates, or a Second Vehicle

This has come up repeatedly in the class Facebook group, and families who asked the school directly report consistent answers. This is parent-reported rather than a published policy, so confirm with the school if it matters for your situation:

• Temporary registration is fine to start. Families say the school accepted a copy of the temporary registration and asked for the updated copy once it arrives - and that the temporary plate number on the form did not need updating.
• Early in the year, staff are looking primarily for the hang tag, not matching individual vehicles, per what Mr. Kasapidis has told families who asked.
• You can list a second vehicle on the registration - useful for the days a sibling blocks the driveway or the primary car is in the shop.
• When information changes (new car, permanent plates, updated registration), share the update with the front office so records stay current.

Round 2 - If Spaces Remain

If spaces remain after the senior lottery, a second round opens to students in grades 11 and 12.

• Enter Round 2: August 10-13 - entry closed at midnight on August 13
• Recipients notified: August 14 via WCPSS student email - this round went to the student's school email, not the parent address. Students on the waitlist are notified the same way, so check even if you are not expecting good news
• Registration: the form comes in that email. Pay the parking fee through School Cash Online, plus any outstanding fines and fees (seniors also need the senior activity fee cleared)
• Pick up pass: at AFHS, on the windows the school posts. If your student cannot make one, they can pick the tag up before school in the front office on any school day

Important Reminders

• Do not pay until you are confirmed. The fee is non-refundable and should only be paid after your student receives a parking space.
• Your student's course schedule does not affect parking. Reduced schedules, CCP courses, etc. require family transportation arrangements.
• Students may not park on campus until they have an assigned space and a posted parking tag.
• Always confirm on the AFHS student parking page. This hub summarizes the process, but the school's page is the official word on dates, fees, and any changes.
