Immunization Records Due Tuesday, September 23

Students without records are excluded from school starting Wednesday, September 24

Principal Pittman has emailed the families who are still missing paperwork. If you got that email, your senior is on the list. The exclusion is required by the State of North Carolina, not a school decision.

Having the shot is not the same as the school having the record. Two separate things to check: whether your senior has had the meningococcal booster, and whether AFHS has the paperwork. If your pediatrician has it, ask them to send it and confirm it arrived.

Updated Saturday, September 19

The Wake County CACRAO College Fair is Sunday, September 20, 1-4pm at the NC State McKimmon Center, 1101 Gorman Street, Raleigh. Colleges, universities, and military branches from around the country, and it is aimed squarely at juniors and seniors. Register through StriveScan ahead of time and have your senior pick "text me my barcode" so reps can scan it at the door. How to register.

Yard sign ordering is closed for the moment. The committee closes the window so it can place the batch order with SpeedPro. Sales will reopen later in the year, and we will post here when they do. Families who already ordered will be contacted directly when this batch is ready for porch pickup. Signs paid for earlier and still not collected are on Christina Winter's porch - email [email protected] to arrange a time.

The Jostens cap and gown order is confusing, and you probably do not need the extra tassel. The tassel is already included in the basic cap and gown package. The "stacked tassel" add-on is a second one. If your senior is reusing an older sibling's gown, the souvenir tassel is the piece that carries the year. Gowns are sized by height, not gender, so a hand-me-down works across siblings. What families have worked out.

Free Application Week is October 19-25. Participating NC colleges waive the application fee that week only. With fees running $45 to $100 a school, it is worth planning the application list around. Details and the participating college list.

FAFSA opens October 1, and Financial Aid Night is October 9 at 6pm in the auditorium. AFHS has its own financial aid advisor, Ms. Linda Brannan, and you can book time with her directly. How.

Senior Support Day is September 24. Help with the college application process during the school day. Registration is required, so see your counselor.

Thank you again to everyone who made senior weekend happen - the Apex Police Department, the three local businesses that fed the class, and the families who donated and showed up at 6am. The recaps and thank-yous live on Senior Social, Chalk Decorating, and Parade + Sunrise. Item donations are closed. Gift cards and monetary donations still get used all year.

Senior year comes with a lot of moving parts - events, deadlines, forms, college applications, and information shared across school messages, Facebook posts, emails, and group texts. This hub brings those resources together in one place.

It is simply a parents-helping-parents resource for AFHS Class of 2027 families.

You'll find senior events, volunteer opportunities, donation needs, parking and portrait information, signs and shirts, school forms, college-preparation resources, and other details that can be easy to miss.

We'll update the hub as new information becomes available. It is not an official AFHS, WCPSS, or PTSA webpage, and we cannot guarantee that every detail will always be correct. We welcome corrections if you notice something that needs to be updated.

September 19 - The immunization deadline is now firm: September 23, with exclusion from school starting September 24. Principal Pittman has notified the affected families directly. See Info and Forms for what counts as proof and where to get the vaccine on short notice.
September 19 - Yard sign ordering is closed while the committee places the current batch, and will reopen later in the year. Families who already ordered get contacted directly for porch pickup. See Yard Signs.
September 19 - Plain-English answers on the Jostens cap and gown order. The tassel is included in the basic package, the "stacked tassel" is an optional second one, and reusing a sibling's gown means buying the souvenir tassel. Two questions are still unanswered: whether the gown is unisex, and what the ordering deadline is. See Graduation.
September 19 - The college deadline tables have been re-checked against every school's own site. Three things moved since July: UNC Wilmington's regular deadline came forward from Feb 1 to Jan 15, ECU's Honors College cutoff moved from Oct 15 to Nov 1, and Wake Forest added an Early Action plan for first-generation students. September 15 - NC College Connect has opened. Eligible NC seniors may already have direct-admission offers sitting in their CFNC account. Worth checking now, since these are easy to miss in a school email inbox.
September 10 - The Senior Parent Meeting has happened and the materials are posted. The college application presentation and the application to-do list are both linked from the Senior Calendar. Questions go to Ms. Evans ([email protected]).

Happening Right Now

Ordering caps and gowns through Jostens? The tassel comes with the basic package. The "stacked tassel" is an optional second one, and a single-item order can carry a shipping fee about equal to the item.
NC College Connect offers are out. The portal opened September 15. Eligible NC seniors get direct-admission offers based largely on GPA and course completion, with no full application required. Check your student's CFNC account. See College Prep.
Common App is open. The essay and the activities list are the parts worth getting down before November deadlines stack up. The Activities section changed this year, including the Position/Leadership field, which now hides behind a Yes/No question. See College Prep.
Senior Support Day is September 24. In-school help with applications. Registration is required - see your counselor. There are more on October 21 and December 9.
Claiming a parking space? The packet comes first. Notarized application, photocopies of the license and vehicle registration, and printed receipts for both the $200 parking fee and the $45 senior fee. Bring photocopies rather than originals. The pickup windows are set by the school and change, so check the AFHS student parking page for current dates, or email Asst. Principal Will Kasapidis ([email protected]).
Off-campus lunch pass applications are still open. Get the form notarized, or bring photo ID and sign it in front of AFHS staff. Pay the $5 online, then pick the pass up in the front office. A senior cannot go off campus until the pass is in hand.

The next big committee event is Senior Sunset in the spring. There is a full year of events left, and the committee still runs on parent volunteers and donations - sign up to volunteer or make a monetary donation.
